Big changes with Mohave County Real Estate and the NAR Settlement

I read somewhere that lots of us have a very negative view of the words “school” and “learn” and “class.” And yet, “Back to School” tends to fill us with a certain nostalgia, doesn’t it? Whether you’re a parent and that nostalgia is “Thank goodness the kids are out of the house for a while,” or you’re someone without kids enduring the Facebook stream of “first day of school” pics, there’s something in the air when we think about back to school.

Back to School ..no no. Still in school.

I don’t love school. I loathe it. I love learning.  I love being able to put that knowledge to work and see the fruits of my labor.  I love helping to teach someone else – watching the light bulb go off over their head, guiding them through their problem, and watch the smile and nod as they “get it”.

Gary and I have always been education junkies.  Things are always progressing and technology is going full force and many times changes before we have a chance to fully learn it.

What’s this got to do with my Mohave County Real Estate

In real estate, things have changed dramatically.  When we moved into our house 9 years ago, we had boxes and boxes… and boxes of old MLS books going back like 30 years (we still have them too!).  These were the books our Multiple Listing Service would put out that had all of our listings in it.  We didn’t go online to some fancy website put in a few parameters and instantly have a list of homes that meet our client’s criteria.  We had BOOKS.  We had to READ. We got to flip through books to find properties.  We actually had to call and converse with other agents about details. Yeah, things have really changed.

We have more changes on the horizon too. We have lots of changes that have to be implemented due to the NAR settlement. All about how we work with each other. That’s another story though.

When problems occur during the course of a transaction, without the knowledge and experience to handle the situation, it can get out of hand quickly.  Unlike the movies, real estate isn’t all about going to lunch and having an open house once in a while.  I mean, we do those things.. but we also take care of some serious situations and these situations can make or break your real estate transaction.  How’s that saying go?
